THE SCRIPTURE AND HERMENEUTICS SEMINAR 2014

THE SON OF MAN (Daniel 7:9-14 and Jesus):

THEOLOGICAL INTERPRETATION IN PRACTICE

At the SAHS in San Diego we will launch our Manifesto for Theological Interpretation with an afternoon of practicing theological interpretation.

Our focus will be on Daniel 7:9-14 and the Son of Man sayings in the Gospels, Jesus’ preferred self-designation. We propose having seven X seven minute presentations leading us through the trajectory from lectio divina to worship. The structure we envisage is as follows:

1. Welcome – Craig / Heath

2. Opening liturgy including lectio style reflection on Dan 7 and a reading from the Gospels.

3. History / Historical criticism and the Son of Man: Retrieving theological interpretation – Murray Rae

4. The Son of Man and the Canon of Scripture – Stephen Dempster

5. Reading with the right goal (includes exegesis) – Heath Thomas

6. Biblical Theology and the Son of Man – David Beldman

7. Mission and the Son of Man – Mike Goheen and Chris Wright

8. Commentary reimagined and the Son of Man - Jonathan Pennington and Mark Gignilliat

9. The Son of Man for all of Life – Craig Bartholomew

10. Liturgy – hymn
